Learning

Reflection

The theoretical foundations of learning are deeply embedded in the Learning, Design, and Technology (LDT) Master's program at the College of Education, University of Wyoming.  The learning experience is immersed in practical applications.  I appreciated the flexibility of the assignments and projects.  Due to the fact, that I could use them in my current employment as a STEAM teacher. The artifacts I have chosen reflect growth in my knowledge and understanding of learning theories and research.

Learning Theories in

Digital Contexts

The goal of this project was to infuse elements of the theoretical foundations of learning in

digital contexts into your upcoming educational practice. I chose to create graphical representation with a museum card.

Constructionist Learning Idea Pitch

The objective of this assignment was to create a 3-minute

pitch that applies constructionist learning to a specific context and audience. I was required

to research constructionist learning and think about the appropriate design and implementation for the

intended audience. I chose a problem-based learning experience for a 5th grade classroom to create automated ways to reduce the spread of germs and viruses.

Literature Review

Integrating Computational Thinking in the K-5 Classroom was my focus.  The project was to gather research done through peer-reviewed journals on an instructional technology we were interested in.  It fit well with what I was doing professionally.  I was designing a K-5 computer science curriculum and was asked to implement computational thinking.  I was unclear what computational thinking was until I did this synthesized literature review.  This project prepared me to be successful in compiling and analyzing current research.  Then I was able to apply my new knowledge to my professional project.

Proposal for Change

Implementing an Innovation

My proposal was to implement and require mandatory pre-schools in public education to meet the demand of the rigorous standards of common core and provide equity amongst students.  This was a very powerful assignment in the amount of research (background, risk factors, and assessment) we had to do to support our proposal and to practically apply change theories. I chose John Kotter’s Model of Organizational change.
